I think you're thinking of the //c+ when you're mentioning the
"last //c's".  It is a quite different model, I can assure you.

I think those old game switches were just that: switches (plus,
maybe, an impedance match).  An RF modulator is quite different.
If your TV doesn't accept the //c's composite signal, you can always
try an old VCR.

Finally, somebody mentioned using a monitor instead of a TV.  It
depends upon what you are using it for.  While monochrome composite
monitors are easy to come by, colour ones are less so.  Also, I
don't see a huge difference between a good TV and a colour composite
monitor for COLOUR GRAPHICS.  Text is a different story, but you
don't see much text in games (unless you are an Infocom fan :) ).
