The Apple //Gs memory board fits ok in the upgraded Apple //e case why wouldn't a third party memory car fit ? With the price of the //Gs computers being so low why bother worring about an upgraded //e with a //Gs logic board ? The later Apple //Gs has a far better design power supply then was in either the Apple //e or //Gs. There was a 2nd design Apple //e power supply made but it had a design flaw and the main power transistor would fail. The replacement power supply transistor was almost impossible to purchase and I have robbed more then a few from warranty replacement power supplies before returning them to Apple. Why there were no 3rd party replacement transistors is any bodies guess. I still have several brand new 2nd design power supplies for the //e and maybe somes day I will offer them on Ebay. Thompsos SGS made the transistors but they were never sold as replacements that I could find. The earlier Apple //e power supplies had a design flaw and I have repaired lots of them by replaceing a capacitor that opens up with a higher voltage capacitor. But if they didn't fail then Apple would never have made their millions by selling replacements. I remember replacing power switches by the dozen in the earlier Apple // power supplies. Apple must have brought a bad batch of parts because the Apple dealer I worked at had a lot of broken Apple // computers with the same problem. Apple had the cases riveted so we had to pry the power switch out and replace it with out opening the case. This was right after Apple changed the toggle switch to a rocker switch and what a pain to repair. This was back in 1982 and I still remember prying those defective switches out. Apple computers has been good to me so I should not complain about their computers. Now the earlier IBM PC with the 16k of ram and 2 floppy drives what a joke

Wouldn't the original IIe upgrades boards be ROM 0 machines? As for peripheral cards, the main problem will be with the memory board (as you suggested) simply because very few of the Apple II bus boards would be IIgs specific.
