Because the front of the IIe case slants down, and most IIgs memory
cards were not designed to take that into account (because very
few people had a IIe upgraded IIgs).

I think it is a hobby project, so it doesn't have to make sense.
;)  I tried doing this a few years back simply because I had a dead
IIe.
