I saw a post about using a LaserWriter on an Apple II GS. It can be done
because I did it for years. You do need to install a LaserWriter driver
in to the system to be able to use GSOS 16 bit software to print with. 

You could use Appleworks GS but NOT the 8 bit Appleworks. You will need
AppleTalk turned on and in the control panel you will need to select
direct connect printer. I have not used a II GS for a long time, but I
think you have to tell AppleTalk what port to use.
