I used HFS for a while, without any issues.  A brief search of
Google groups reveals that there is some debate over what these
bugs are and (in a sense) if it even exists.  Some people go as
far as suggesting that it is only a problem on larger partitions
(the number 200 MB popped up once).  There also appears to be a
patch for HFS incorrectly calculating logical block numbers, but
it doesn't say whether this causes data corruption or potential
incompatabilities if you use it with other HFS drivers.

Based on the discussions in the mid-1990s, I get the impression
that this is an obscure bug which rose to legendary status.  That
said, whatever you put on your hard drive is your data -- so beware.
