Hello Roger and Gregy,
this monitor IBM9517 gives me a good image with a driver which is in
Win98. The image is a bit off center. I did find a driver for my miro
card that offers WinTools - now I have the image nicely centered. There
is a black frame around the image of about 1,5cm (half inch). It does not
bother me because it is for Win only.
With Arachne the Graphicsetup allows only the Vesa driver and this gives
a very flickering, distorted and too big image. But Arachne connects to
internet and works properly. I tried all possibilities of the
Graphicsetup.
When I install the SciTechDisplayDoctor (only 651 did the trick) I get
Arachne full size with very fine grain and no flicker. I must confess
this was all done by my son who visited us during his Xmas holidays. But
Arachne says "no PPP link" and clicks off.
As a side effect of Display doctor the image of Windows is a bit wider
so the black frame is smaller left and right. The guy who sold me the
monitor showed me the Win image. It filled the full width and had only a
small black strip on top and bottom. He uses an Elsa Erazor videocard
and sayd in Win95 (C?) is a driver called IBM 6554 P70 17".
I hope this info is of any use.
BTW: If you let Michael fix all bugs in Arachne and make it perfect what
would be left to complain about? I think sometimes To use Arachne is as
fascinating like driving one of the AlfaRomeos with 4 or 6 carburetors.
There is no car which follows the command of the accelerator pedal as
perfect as one of those. But the fascination vanishes quickly because
the carburators disadjust so easily. So you must readjust them which is
an art only very few people know. This way you develop a personal
relation to your car or in our case to Arachne.
Gerald
PS: I lost my Digest from Thursday. Can I ask for resending and how?
