I can understand the problem as this kind of method is used in my
country as
well. I was lucky enough, though, to be enough "problematic" to avoid
joining.
(being extremly light weight, having anti-war views, and going to the
examinations with a Star Trek communicator made of Plastic + explaining
all about it to anyone who didnt want to hear about it really helped
alot.)

I also had an emergency speech, which I had to use in the end, and seems
to have
worked well. (Fact: I didnt join. If I did, I would have still been
there,
having only 2 years until release.). At first I stated that I am not
intrested
to join. Then I gave the "why" speech: "its not because I am not
intrested to
serve my country and defend it of our enemies, it is that I do not fit
both
psicologicly and physicly to army life, thus I will not be able to serve
my
country to the fullest of my capabilities. I would like to repay the
debt
of service by other means, such as civil service, where I would be able
to
serve our country to the fullest.". It made me look so patriotic that it
actually worked. And thanks to other medical issues, I dont need to do
public
service as well. Just keep mentioning 'how much' you would like to serve
your country, and it should work. Ofcourse, it might work the other way
around.. :)

Here's another suggestion. This was seposed to be a joke, but who knows:
A friend of mine adviced me to go to the examinations with my laptop,
and
claim loudly: "I'm not going anywhere without Bobby!".

(btw, to this day the laptop is named Bobby. :)
