Mine _might_ be better than most.
P150, 80mb ram, S3Trio64v+ with 1mb video ram,
(VESA 1.2 compliant so univbe is not needed)
[built onto mother board, not a seperate card]
Arachne is setup to use Vesa driver in 800x600 HiColor mode.

So, the "3.5 sec to paint the screen" is not an Arachne problem after-all.
It was due to the fact that you were using "inferior hardware".<vbg>
