To Sam Ewalt:
Thanks for you reassurance about telnet working. The problem turned out
to be my download through 1.6b1 which cut the download short without
informing me! When I checked file sizes I found half missing.
I have had further problems with downloading apms also - the next trouble
was that the download did not see the end of the file and continued
reloading it, presumeably over the top of the pre-existing, judging from
what i fished out of cache.
I am far more impressed with 1.61 which does almost all I would desire.
It did go down in flames at my first URL however...http://www.ata.org.au
but it did get further into the site than 1.4 that only got the frames in
place, but at least did not lock up on me.
Just a query about Freenet -why the interest in it?
I am very naive apparently, but the problem here is the dialcharges, not
the ISP. The ruling imperative in Australia isto get an ISP within local
call charge range - all other issues are very secondary ( except downtime
:-(
Also, I have had no trouble getting into any Australian ISPs with Arachne,
and I have used seven, (to avoidlong distance call charges when
travelling)
