How did Arachne users and other DOS users get by the https to register for
Freewwweb? Problem is not so much the first https, which can be edited to http
using DOS Lynx386 or any other up-to-date Lynx, but the https on the form
itself.
<form method=get action="https://reg.freewwweb.com/cgi-bin/signup.cgi">
Lynx can't edit a "Submit-To" link. When I tried with Arachne, I got an illegal
memory swap or something like that, and after trying to recover, I got the
three skulls & crossbones FATAL.AH but didn't have to reboot. I am using the
newest Arachne release, 1.61. I just checked the cache with
xdir e:\arach161\cache /T running DR-DOS 7.03 which would be
dir e:\arach161\cache /o:d under MS-DOS or OS/2 Warp
and at the end of the list found the cached files, edited https to http, saved
and will try again.
Otherwise there are possibilities in Linux and OS/2 Warp 4, including Netscape
Communicator. With Netscape Communicator I wouldn't have to fudge with https.
I tried again with Arachne 1.61, no go, got
Memory allocation error - Illegal xSwap operation at line 203 of file URLOVRL.C!
Trying to deallocate xSwap . . . ok
Strike a key when ready . . .
I did that, and again got three skulls and crossbones, FATAL.AH
