CV> Why will you have more memory to play with ?

Because Linux is not limited to 640 KB direct memory usage.
(direct -> without any slow tricks)

CV> Because you had to buy more just to run Linux ?
Not really ... Linux can run with 3 MB of memory.
And in my old school they just threw away 486s with 8 MB of ram ....

No ... but if you find bugs this way, which managed to hide themselfs under
normal circumstances, than this is not bad IMHO.

And I'm also of the oppinion, that a Linux version will secure the life of
Arachne.

Because there are very few people (like us :) who want to be stuck with a
singleuser/singletasking OS.

You now may say, that these systems are 'bloated' but many people
(including myself) accept some bloat, if I'm able to telnet into my own
computer from the university, and to run a X Programm remotely.

I have just seen Corel Linux .. it IS bloated, but it is easier to install
than Windows.

In a world of 40 GB Hdds, I don't consider the amount that Linux takes as
very much.

And don't forget ... Linux is the kernel, and this takes ca. 500-800 KB !!

The rest are additional programs, which are a free gift !!!

So you can't say, that Linux uses even more HDD Space than windows.

Don't forget that Linux comes with MANY additional programs.
Try to add all the additional functionality to Windows, and THAN compare
:-)

I just come from hungary, and even there people (my neighbour) sold a
pentium 233 MMX, because it was so old.
(and believe me, my neighbour does not have the money to spend much on new
computers ...)

So IMHO
a linux version will secure the future of Arachne.
Everybody has a different 'bloat-tolerance' ... this is absolutely OK ...
as long as nobody is ridiculed because of this ...

PS: Has Michael written to you conserning serious logo.apm ??
PPS: There is a so called linux router project, you can download a linux
distribution copy it to a 1.44MB disk, and use it out of the box as a
network analyzation station.
Together with LOTS of network related programs and tools ... this can't be
bloat :))
PPPS: There is also a test disk, where you can test the ability of your
system to run X ... so linux + a minimal X Windows system on a 1.44 MB disk
.... :-))) (I can't remember where I got this ...)
