I've downloaded Mpxplay and a sample MP3 file, but so far I
haven't been able to get Mpxplay to produce any sound with my
system. To Glenn McCorkle and any others using Mpxplay, I'd
appreciate any ideas, as all this computer sound stuff is just
strange to me.
When I invoke Mpxplay and try to play the MP3 file, Mpxplay
displays active, pretty vertical bars representative of the
music, a moving horizontal marker as the music is being played,
information about the recording, etc.--but no sound from the
speakers!
My computer is an AMD 486DX2-66 with VL-bus running MS-dos 6.22
and Win 3.11. The sound card, which I installed, is a pnp DCS
S717; it claims to have full compatibility with the AdLib sound
card, Sound Blaster, and Sound Blaster Pro. It plays audio CD
music just fine without loading Windows, and I also have used it
successfully with Win to play RealAudio files.
I read in the Mpxplay information that I really should have at
least a 486DX4-80 or 100, and I suppose this could be the reason
I'm not getting any sound. But if this was the problem, wouldn't
it still produce sound, but of a poor quality?
Any ideas?
