Yes! But Michael why are you making life complicated? Why not just write
IRQ/IOPORT to PPPDRC.CFG?

If you must include COMx, then something like this should be good:

        if {user_specifies_default_comport}
                then {write_COMx_to_pppdrc}
        elseif {user_specifies_nonstandard_comport}
                then {write_IRC/IOPORT_to_pppdrc}
        endif

I am waiting to test this...I now have a machine with two modems, an
external modem hanging off COM2 (which I can change to COM4), with mouse
on COM1, and an internal PCI modem. At the moment first modem works with
Arachne, second one doesn't.

Remember for a problem like this: "Release early and release often". You
must have at least a dozen people, all with different setups, on the
Arachne list who will quickly test for you, so if there is a problem you
will soon find out.
