Terri,

Bunch of us are a few "old hens." And "old" is the operative word,
being "old hands" with Arachne [never thought I'd make it that far].

There is a difference between "no images" and a text only screen. A BIG
difference. You might check out my website [in my sig block] and check
the time it takes to load the graphics page [with an without images] and
the time it takes to load the linked "text only" page. Remember to
clear your cache before timing them.

And there's another reason for text only vs. graphics page with images
off. Load the Arachne home page with images off and look at how
confusing it can be with links smaller than the "alt" text for the
graphic. The Arachne home page *does* load in readable format faster
now, because Michael or one of his html slaves put in the size for each
and every graphic, allowing a browser to put up the page before the
graphics are downloaded ... but it is still difficult to navigate.

And I have blind friends who have to listen to their computer. Imagine
them trying to make sense out of the Arachne graphics home page. They
are just one good reason why I offer a text-only alternative to my main
page, graphics free newsletter html page, and archives as pure text
files.

I want to *use* the internet, not watch the pretty pictures. <G>
