Clarence,

How much is in the cache directory doesn't seem to have any direct link
to the chains, but may have an indirect one.

Today's collection of 8 units to 5 files did show me one consistent
fact:

Each file started out as a copy of smtp.log

Each copy of smtp.log was followed by a random portion of
the message being sent [or the original message deleted?]

In addition 4 of the 5 files ended up with garbage that was either part
of cache.idx or arachne.pck

Now I see a pattern here. Arachne over-writes smtp.log each time mail
is sent. Arachne over-writes/re-writes cache.idx with just about every
move you make on Arachne. Arachne over-writes/re-writes arachne.pck

* Arachne is "tuned" to DR-DOS[?} and not MS-DOS

* Differences between DR-DOS & MS-DOS functions have been discussed

*Optimization for non-MS DOS may mean commands aren't being sent
correctly for MS-DOS and consequently there's a bunch of garbage left
lying around that ends up as lost chains???
