After reading this message I shelled out and chkdsk/f'd ... 2 clusters
in one chain. The file created was [once again] SMTP upload of mail,
including HELO & QUIT commands, 'catted to the end was what appears to
be a portion of arachne.pck
Admittedly I couldn't do "double_buffer" because that's not a switch
available to this 6.22 version of smartdrv. But neither have I forced
over the caching to XMS -- because I didn't want the caching software to
be the cause of any Xswap errors.
I'm willing to work on this in a systematic manner, with someone who
knows the steps to take. But the list is so busy it's hard for me to
keep up with it, and until some sort of reproducible pattern can [or
cannot] be found on this, there is little reason to fill the list up
with this type of "grunt work."
So Bernie, or whomever, write private and I'll send a copy of the
options I have with DOS 6.22 smartdrv.exe and you can lay out the plan
for me to follow.
Also, although I've downloaded 1.66 I haven't upgraded yet. Whoever
I'm going to be working with on this will need to let me know if 1.66
upgrade should be done right away, or should I stick with 1.64 and then
move to 1.66 later ...
