I have been using Arachne 1.66 quite a bit lately for testing, and have
found that an old problem has returned. :-((
On my P90 at home, it takes A166 *26* seconds to load either:
Options | Preferences or Conf_PPP.htm (arachne:pppsetup) from cache.
It seems like she gets the information from Arachne.cfg one byte at a time.
I mean, open file, get one byte, close file, open file, get one byte, close
file ..........
On the same P90 with ALL setup EXACTLY the same, A162 takes 1 second max
for either page.
DOS 6.20. No ramdisk used in either case.
On my 20Mhz *'386* _ON A RAMDISK_, A166 takes 21 seconds to retrieve either
page from cache.
DOS 3.30
For comparison, using same '386 and ramdisk and DOS 3.30 and configuration:
Arachne 1.62 reload Preferences OR pppsetup from cache - 19 seconds.
Arachne 1.64 reload Preferences OR pppsetup from cache - 19 seconds.
That 3 second difference between the above and the A166 test would be
multiplied by 7 to take into account the DOS 6xx 700% problem.
I believe that there is a REAL problem with Arachne 1.66 and a SEPARATE
problem with DOS 6xx.
Could I get some users of DOS 6.anything to compare A166 with A162 or 4
on their boxes with duplicate setups ?
