OK, I've now changed (temporarily) to MS-DOS 6.22, otherwise identical
setup, and tried Options|Preferences from cache again... no discernable
difference.
(BTW, the Smartdrive, EMM386 and Himem I use are from 6.22,
even when running MS-DOS 5.0.)
