But when making a program one must assume that the user is in fact an
"idiot". Otherwise anyone who has ever forgotten something is an idiot. And
this all comes back to the fact that many Linux fans think that only those
who have mastered Linux should be allowed to use it. "Since I had to read
all that documentation everyone should be forced to do it".

Or perhaps doesn't progresses ;-)
The problem would be that most (all?) programs in Linux are made this way -
and that's the point. I really don't have time to go over all of them,
especially since I'm not even interested in it. However the people that are
interested in Linux and have the ability should IMNSHO fix the programs
(atleast when they are changing them in some other respect) so that they
are "idiot-proof". Until that day comes Linux is NOT a good platform for
most people.
If DOS was as bad in this respect as Linux I really don't think it would be
alive today. When the hype over Linux settles this better be fixed or Linux
will loose much of the market (perhaps to some new OS that has this from
the get-go?).
