An ego?.. I'll show you an ego:
The startrek club i'm in is the worse case possible:
Lets start with their letters. Every few months, they send letters
explaining what will be in the club for the following time. Unfortunatly,
the letters are either in hebrew ASCII, and the type that is only supported
by Outlook, or its in an attached MS Word format, that is always the
newest one, or etleast Word 97. One would think that it would be simply
a matter of using a Word viewer, but they are using hebrew in it. Something
that absolutly no Word Viewer is capable of viewing. When they get complaints
from Macintosh or UNIX users, they simply reply with something like:
"Then upgrade your system please" or "We cant do special things for a
minority of users". In some cases they re-send the file as an RTF version,
which because its using hebrew, is too can only be viewed on Win95 and up.
Sometimes they direct you for their site for the HTML version.
No problem, one would think. Well: frames, Java applet menus (no
HTML links). And ofcourse, "ALT" tags are not something of use.
After afew months they changed it to Javascript-only menus.
After more complaints, they changed to plain HTML. That, ofcourse,
didnt solve the problem: they started using the new MS hebrew standard
for HTML: this standard cause you, the viewer to see everything in
BACKWORD unless you are using IE 5 or up. Anything else, well, there
isnt anything else. Right?
And there's alot more, but i'll spare from you the details.
So whenever you're frustrated from some site that seems to do
everything in their power to block the "unchosen ones", just remember
that it could be alot, alot worse.
