No, that's the C++ programmers philosophy. Arachne is written in C and it's
fast on the mentioned machine (I'm guessing here, but Arachne is fast on a
AMD K6-2 400MHz with 64MB).
More interestingly the speed often depends on the system, for instance Real
Player [insert the latest number - I can't remember] used in Windows 95 on
a P120 48MB RAM performs much better than the same program used under
Windows NT 4 (SP6) on a Pentium II 266 (or is it a 233?) and 64MB RAM. The
movie in question is very small and played from the HD.
