I went through this exercise with 1.50. I botched the install, and
thereafter it refused to install, even if I cleaned out the Arachne
directory and anything else I could find. Nobody could tell me what Arachne
files might have been snuck into other directories, what configuration
changes might have occurred, etc.
Maybe we ought to be lobbying for an Arachne uninstall program that cleans
up whatever Arachne changes.
