We all have memory problems of one kind or another.<g>
The following excerpt from History.txt, which I found while searching for
info on the cache-clearing mini-controversy, may help refresh:
1.65 stable for DOS
----
Release date: 18th July 2000
Bug fixes: Serious crash of DOS version, when <FRAMESET> formated like eg.
"800,*" was resulting in frame sizes smaller then zero in
modes like 640x480 or 800x600 with sidebar. Totaly fixed, and
as a side effect, all zero-sized frames are now made invisble
to speed up page loading process.
Serious crash of DOS version on pages with GIF images wider
than 2048 pixels was fixed (eg. table background on Goto.com)
Table layout was improved (pes.eunet.cz, www.freeuk.com, etc.).
Unterminated HTML entity hack: "something & something" won't
be formated like "something &something" any longer. Now GIF
width is limited to 1200 pixels, but Arachne won't crash on
wider GIFs.
Now, about cache-clearing and MY memory problems:

Bernie, it works perfectly for ME in 1.62 and not so perfectly in 1.65+.
I have determined that the switch to using a .bat to clear the cache occurred
in 1.65 BEFORE the \temp clearing controversy. Maybe it caused it.
I have also determined from messages referring to 1.64 that I, and others,
were pretty sure 1.64 was stable and I couldn't find any reason for a panic
switch to an entirely different cache-clearing method.
There was a post regarding xSwap errors and cache clearing from Michael, but
that was in connection with his decision to grant a request that the page be
reloaded. Frequently these requests are misinterpreted. Likely, the request
was for simple page re-display not re-load.
There don't seem to be any xSwap problems with my frequently used 1.62 and
it politely continues to DISPLAY the page I'm viewing when I hit F8 whether
I'm online or not - unlike other versions that immediately complain about
lack of PPP connection after the cache clear, or reload the page you are
trying to get rid of.
Could you please refresh my memory here ? I can't seem to find why the clr
function was moved to external.
