The only modem I had available when I started using Arachne was a 14.4
plug and pray modem that was partially controlled by software. It worked
just fine with Telix and other Terminal programs in DOS, but would
not work with Arachne--despite various attempted fixes with comm port
utilities and other finagaling. After weeks of frustration I just
bought a new modem.
Real modems that would work in DOS were cheap for awhile. Now would
have to pay full price after much seaching--or find a used modem
at a junk store or swap meet.
