Strangely, my mail transport of choice, fdsmtpop, supports only
a smtp-before-pop mode, instead of the (usual) reverse. So I
rigged up a batch file with a nice keyboard stuffer (stuffkey)
to run fdsmtpop firs to access my pop server, send the popserver
my user ID and password and then immediately log out (the keyboard
stuffer sends ^C). Then I run, fdsmtpop a second time to access the
smtp server.

The batch file takes perhaps another 7 seconds, and my ISP appears
to support POP-before-smtp. That fixes it.

As to why my ISP does not simply check the dynamic IP address of
users who access the smtp server, after having joined the internet
through their own nameserver: It is a big corporate ISP (Verio)
that has ruined quite a few local ISPs that it bought. It does not
care much about single users, and probably thinks its money with
in larger business accounts. I doubt they gave much thought to
individual users when installing their spam filter(s).
