I still don't understand how you can get a faster reload time if you remove
the read-ahead, it should only change the time for reading files that
aren't in the cache. Those files should all be there now...

And what is a "fast computer" then? Some people assume that a 33MHz is
faster than a 25MHz, but the 25MHz can outperform the 33MHz if it has cache
on the motherboard (please note that I ignored the word "more" here). I
have never tried this exact match (nor with the same graphics card etc.)
but I did see big diffrences between a 486SX-25 with 128Kb cache and one
with only 8 (almost none IMHO).
A more lately problem is between Pentium IV and Athlon, you can't just look
at the CPU speed to determine which is fastest.
