I should have pointed out that since about A1.64 or 5, Arachne handles
this size problem properly by specifying a NEW value for environment 
space in DOSSHELL.bat. (512 bytes)
I obviously can't comment on what any OTHER program does for space.

The "disappearing" variables are still an issue.
