.ZBMs aren't really being promoted yet, we've just raised the flag to see
how the wind blows. <G> They won't be truly promoted until I am legally
permitted to use a piece of software I have "converted" to replace that
frightening long (and slow) mime.cfg line Glenn suggests for Arachne. ;-)
.ZBMs are *NOT* proprietary.
We propose their use to replace .GIFs which ARE proprietary.
The standard describing .ZBMs is freely available now, to all interested,
and will be published at some time with whatever body(s) will accept it,
when it becomes reasonable to begin serious promotion.:(

I agree.
Windows Bitmaps are a freely available standard.
ZIP is a freely available standard.
ZBM combines them.
