Of course not. But wait a minute - "windoze won't let me quit if I don't
"close" Trumpet" - what does that mean? Windows will just shut Trumpet down
itself, not refuse to quit until Trumpet is closed right? Otherwise you
have one weird Windows versions (please, no funny remarks).

Does the packetdriver (the one used for the NIC) work after you've loaded
winpkt.com?
If it does (it should) I suggest you get Trumpet 2.1f, I could perhaps send
it to you - but it will have to wait until I get well (I've got the flu) so
I can send from uni.
