Almost everyone mentioned View which costs a little money. Catdoc.zip
also does a pretty decent job and is freeware. There is also a handy
freeware utility called rt that simply strips all characters outside
the ascii text range from a file and uses its own intelligence to
try to present the remaining text in a decent format. It seems to
convert MS word documents quite well.
