I have heard this before from the people who operate commercial labs.
I don't want custom developing. You have to pay a very high price
for it. I just want ordinary developing, which is good enough for me
for almost all of my photography. What I do not want is for the lab
to cut the film and mount the slides. I want developing only, and
nothing else. Why should anyone be forced to pay more to get less
"service"? I don't want a "custom" job. I just want a "partially
completed" job. A job order requesting the completion of only one
phase of the photo finishing process should not be treated as though
it were an order for a custom job.
Unfortunately the commercial labs will consider my request as an order
for a custom job and they will advise me to take my film elsewhere.
That is the way it is. There is nothing I can do about it. That should
bring the discussion on this off-topic subject to a close.
