Windows is really bad at networking issues. You can share your files and
printers via the SMB protocol, and that's pretty much it.
DOS is even worse. (there are some tries like M$ LAN Manager for DOS, but
... no comment)
I really think that you should try a network centric OS like Linux or
Free/Open/Net BSD.
They offer EXTREME possibilities, and it's really not that hard to
install/use them.
And they are free.
Give it a try on one of your machines.
