I don't know were you take your accusations from.
But 2.50 was released a long time ago (1999) and there was a discussion
about it here. (and I remember that YOU have posted something about the new
version)
It is an official version.
And it is a DOS version, and the only windows friendlyness is that it
supports LFN when run in a DOS windows of windows.
(and furthermore it also can utilize DPMI which makes it compress a bit
better.)
