I notice that I get an extra message line at the top that you don't get:
Clarkson University Tcp Communication Package

I also browsed the .exe and the extra instructional line that YOU get 
is *IN* the package.

Do you have any config files specific to Telnet ? I don't.
Do you launch it with "T" ??
