To stay within the 100 message limit, I download my messages at least twice a
  day.

The 40 character subject line limit is a function of TAPCIS, not Compuserve.
TAPCIS is a program for e-mail and which will automatically search designated
fora for messages, and download them for offline reading. Keeps you online
only for a minimal amount of time.

Compuserve is where I first learned of Arachne. I was receiving messages in
some forum and someone asked about DOS browsers. The SYSOP responded with
Arachne being available. From then on, I was hooked on Arachne! Up to then,
I had been trying to use NetTamer.

Roger,

I suppose TAPCIS downloads and keeps messages in an easier-to-handle format that
does (DOS or WIN)CIM ? I remember there was also OZCIS for DOS, and a Golden
Commpass for OS/2.

How did you like Net-Tamer compared to Arachne? You sound like you didn't like
Net-Tamer very much.
