There is an open-source program, wvWare, to convert MS-Word .doc to HTML. I
don't know if they've done everything for DOS, though I remember seeing it in
the NetBSD packages collection, and it was also available for OS/2, so it would
in all likelihood be available for all Unixes, especially the open-source

Maybe you could download and have a look?
If the public libraries in your area have public-access computers, and those
computers, or some of them, have MS-Word, as they do in Jefferson County KY, you
could read them there, and then convert to HTML from within MS-Word.
