I doubt there is. I just checked the product FAQ for the SB4100, and it does
not contain any NAT technology (which seems to be common for firewalls), but
it allows you to connect an external firewall to it.

In addition, they say that they have added a stand-by button on the front of
the modem. Guess why? For increased security.

Okay, I agree. The most safe way is to be entirely off-line. But what to do
when you want to go on-line then? A firewall is not bullet-proof, but at
least it gives an assumed hacker a little bit more effort before he reaches
one's machine (or local network), doesn't it?

I also had the idea of installing a software firewall, like Distributed
Firewall from F-Secure. It would be the cheapest solution, but it will most
likely require system resources, which slows down the machine. Additionally,
it only runs under Windoze AFAIK.

Btw, wouldn't it be funny if a hacker came through when being connected with
Arachne? He would probably wonder what place he has come to, don't you
think? ;-)
