Hello, Mithgol ;-)

I will attempt to comment on these "bugs" from a different viewpoint.

First, I repeat, unsupported protocols are not a big deal - especially
Java and Flash. What we NEED are _hitmen_ to go after the twits that USE
these nasty and annoying extensions to HTML.
I have exactly the same opinion of javascript - it is exceedingly wasteful
of bandwidth for no profit except for expansion of the page designer's ego -
but my feelings about the way it should be treated differ from the above.
It should be safely ignored EXCEPT for a very few functions that may be
handled in a simple and minimal manner that lets us navigate.
In fact, I personally think most of it should be STRIPPED at download time
or at first parse so we don't waste time/space on it when we return.

Second, I'm using Netscape to view your bugdemos. Ok, they are supposed
to be demos of Arachne bugs, but if they don't look reasonable in NS what
are they demonstrating ?

Third, I'll only do the NON-Arachne portion of the tests right now. :)

#1: Ok, this HTML section looks fine (as intended) in NS 2.02. I loooked
at your .GIF and can't believe Arachne would do that. I'll try it on
    my install tonite.

#2: Ok. the ampersand test looks the same in my browser as you show for
NS4.78, but how the heck can you demo what it looks like in 4.78 if
    I'm viewing with 2.02 ? I see: 'Toccata&Fuga D Minor'. Is that right ?
I agree the effect is different with Arachne, but if you don't have
    the terminating ";" what's the point ?
    Who's on first ?

#3: The CSS complaint. The long hyperlink used for demo is just a long
link in my browser. The image you have showing the effect in Arachne
looks ok to me, but what do *I* know - CSS is unnecessary fluff to me.
The second animated one DOES look confusing (BTW your small inserted
images are an EXCELLENT idea) - but ???

#4: No need to enumerate any CSS1 malfunctions. I think you miss the point of
a simple DOS-BASED browser. Although I, and surely others, do appreciate
your efforts we don't need another NS/IE - we need a working alternative.

#5: Middle does not center. Hmmm. What "table above" is the demo for this ?
I saw no centering of anything on my screen in NS2.02 and the source
did not seem to have anything that asked for a "MIDDLE" Valignment.
While on the subject of source, your demo is a bit FAT with js.
Since I have js turned off, nothing you wasted your time on there could
impress me EXCEPT the waste. I couldn't resist that comment. Sorry.<g>
Back to the "middle". There is a list of Arachne supported HTML in text
format shipped with Arachne. Is MIDDLE in it ? I've never seen it used.

#6: Pre-aligned right. The first half of the page WAS aligned right in NS
and the last half was centered. I'll look with Arachne later.

#7: Affects you more than most of us. ;-) The problem is one of priorities.
I don't know who made the .APM. Maybe one of the users in eastern
Europe could help with these .APMs ?

#8:"The solid bright vertical line along the right margin of the image is,
of course, Arachne-specific and does not appear, for example,in Netscape."
What solid bright line ? There is NO solid bright vertical line showing
in your 700% magnified image on MY Netscape screen. There is, however,
a known bug in image rendering/positioning where SOME types of image are
shifted one pixel to the right and/or truncated.
    See: http://caverge.arachne.cz/myfiles/xperimental/imagetst.gif
    and: http://caverge.arachne.cz/myfiles/xperimental/chopped.gif
Michael doesn't seem to care about this right now.

#9: GIF fake transparency. Hmmm. Your image still looks dirty to me in
Netscape, but there was no transparency visible. Maybe there is a real
bug in the rendering here, but I'll reserve judgement until I see it in
my Arachne. BTW, if there IS a bug here, it's not likely to get fixed.:(

#10:I can't (and won't) test this one. Smooth scrolling turns off my use of
the cursor keys in Arachne cuz I refuse to use a two key cursor.

#11:I think that's just bad HTML.

Sorry the above seems so negative. I'm trying to give you a serious response
as I'm fully aware that the new complainer on the block gets less attention
than they deserve. I know this because I was a newbie here once and am now
a newbie on another list where I'm being ignored. <G>

I see that you are making every effort to be taken seriously and we DO need
to be stirred up a bit right now.

Thanks for your time and efforts. More later.
