First I let mount decide what kind of filesystem D: had on it: mount /dev/hda5 /hd It mounted it and said it was UMSDOS beta 0.6. Then I tried: copy /hd/mc /usr/bin Same result as yesterday: 8-10 lines of I/O error re: drive d: Then: usr/bin/mc: No such file or directory. Big Red Button (A REAL button)<g> Next try, after copying mc to a blank floppy: mount /dev/fd0 /mnt It reported the floppy was UMSDOS beta 0.6. Then, as suggested above: copy /mnt/mc /usr/bin This resulted in some considerable FD activity followed by 8-10 lines of complaint (End-request: I/O error [some sector#]) and: usr/bin/mc: No such file or directiory. THIS time I did cd /usr/bin and dir. MC was there, albeit only 208k. It was 318996 on A:. I tried mc and the result was: Floating point exception. So, I re-downloaded the mc.gz file and copied IT to A:. Restarted Baslinux, mounted the floppy and copied mc.gz to /usr/bin. It all arrived: 160k. The error messages arrived - they come 10-20 sec after the file is transferred, and immediately following a burst of floppy activity which I do not ask for. I ignored the messages and gunzipped mc. Error message: No space on device. :( Ummm. Forgot about that. Restarted, deleted Links and tried it all again. Same error messages which I ignored, and mc expanded to its proper size. I tried it and it WORKED ! A much friendlier interface for me. Thanks. <G> I then attempted to use MC to copy lynx to /usr/bin and that's when I noticed there was only 170kb free ! MC said the ramdisk was only 3760 kb total. ?? So I deleted grep and pico and copied lynx from my Dragon distro and tried to run it only to get an error message from gzip: No space on device.:( Ok, what space does mc say YOU have with links gone and mc unzipped ? Now the next thing to worry about is those error messages. This box is a 5-7 year old P90. It's ISA. Would this matter to you ?
