basiclinux and X

Greetings-
I tried reinstalling x332bin.tgz but still can't get X running.  I
guessed at the monitor settings but don't know if that would cause X not
to run.  How can I determine what these settings are?  I have no info on
the used laptop but notice there is some info flashing by on the screen
when I boot Basiclinux.  Is the info there and if so, how do I pause it
or is there a command that I can type to give be the boot info?
