Your arachne.cfg must be corrupted.
Check under system for the path to your hotlist:
[system]
Hotlist .\HOTLIST.HTM

I'll leave the BSD to someone else, and just say that learning ASM in
general is a lot easier than most think. The oddities of some Intel-based
hardware that we must use every day take away some of the joy tho. :((

You can learn to assemble useful code with any book that describes the
architecture of the 8088 and provides details of the instruction set.
Just use debug for your beginner's all purpose assembler/disassembler
and debugger. <G>
