Hi All;
I'd like to find a few brave people with slow computers to do
a speed test for me using a version of DOS I will supply.

If you have anything slower than 66Mhz please get:
http://caverge.arachne.cz/linked/bootimg.zip

Unzip it to (I suggest) a ramdisk.
You will find:

DISKCOPY COM 24566 97-02-27 7:01
BOOT IMG 1474979 02-03-14 16:57

Put a good floppy in A: and do this:

RD:\>diskcopy boot.img a:

This will make a bootable floppy with the minimum files needed for
this test. When you reboot (using the floppy) a ramdisk will be
created.

*IMPORTANT* Please don't try this if you use FAT32 because I can't
predict the results.
If you do NOT have any partitions larger than 32Mb, the ramdisk will
use the next available drive letter.
If you DO have big partitions, the OS will NOT recognize them and the
ramdisk will be drive C:.
You will see the name on the screen in either case.

Do not fear - the HD C: will not be touched.
To check the ramdisk, type C: or E: (or whatever RD) and do dir.
It should say you have a VDISK - about 2.2 Mb and it should be empty.

If the ramdisk is C:, go to A: and type:
PKUNZIP speedchk.zip c: <enter>

If it's something else, adjust accordingly.

Please change drives to the ramdisk and run Speedchk.
Hit enter after the first screen and record the results.

Re-boot to your normal setup, and unzip speedchk again to your
normal ramdisk. Try it and let us know what the results were.

Thanks.
