Hi all,

I disagree with the proposal of 2 lists - and offer a different
suggestion.

When the dialog becomes almost exclusively a regular exchange between 2
or 3 people, then it is appropriate to make the dialog private between
those individuals.

If the intent to really about dialog, this answers the problem of too
much unwanted traffic on the list.

Of course, the trick is to recognize when the discussion reaches the
point where nobody else is involved. I was involved in a previous debate
concerning the proof-texts for or against evolution. It became a two-way
dialog between myself and Ron, so we took it off-line. We were probably a
few days late in making the switch, but everybody suffered through that
without too much moaning and groaning.

(BTW, my occasional references to Ron as *cousin* - a term of endearment,
actually - came from that discussion ... which was concluded peacefully
among friends). (Maybe Saddam and GW should give it a try).

In summary, I vote for sticking with one list.

Food for thought - if we have 2 lists, we'll get double the letters from
the general's son in Nigeria.

Bob
