Here are my settings.

[internet]
HTTPproxy proxy.provider.com:8080
UseProxy No
HomePage http://home.arachne.cz/
SearchPage http://www.google.com/search
SearchEngine http://www.google.com/search?q=
FTPusername glennmccorkle
FTPpassword *****
;FTPhost ftp.provider.com
;"FTPhost" is now obsolete and has been replaced with "FTPserver"
FTPserver ftp.angelfire.com
FTPpath ftp-site.htm
AcceptCharset ISO-8859-1,*
UseBinaryFTP Yes

BTW,
None of these settings are used for FTP downloads.
They pertain strictly to FTP uploads.

These are the settings for FTP download.

[auto-added]
UseFTPproxy Yes
FTPproxy proxy.provider.com:21

These settings can be changed on the "Options/Internet settings" setup page.

If you have an FTPproxy server set on this page....
Try disabling it by checking the box next to "Don't use FTP proxy server"

Also....
Please outline for us in detail...

How long does it take between taking the link and when Arachne
displays the "cannot access" message.

ie: 10 seconds? , 20 seconds? , ... almost instantly?

If it does take at-least a few seconds....
What *does* happen during that time ?

1) nothing at-all ?
2) apparent server time-out ?
3) some strange error message at the bottom
of the screen before Arachne goes to err_open.ah ?
4) something else altogether ?
