Ah, but in the good ol' USA there is a big difference.

In the good ol' USA all government spending, to include also all the
wasteful government spending, is approved of by the people themselves.
In the good ol' USA all government spending must be authorized by
Congress, which consists only of representatives elected by the people.
In a democracy or in a representative government, the only tyranny that
exists is the tyranny of the masses.  In a dictatorship only the dictator
has the power to be a tyrant.  A far better government than a democratic
government would be a government administrated by a beneficent dictator.
The only problem with establishing beneficent dictatorships is that the
world does not know of any beneficent people who want to become dictators.
