Hello all, I have a headless box running Arch as a Print and File server (Cups, NFS). Up until a few days ago everything was working fine. The only way I can get into this box is through ssh. Now when I try to ssh to the box it accepts the connection, prompts for passphrase, successfully authenticates me, prints the 'welcome' banner, then nothing. No shell prompt, just nothing. I can type commands but they aren't having an effect. I have to manually close the konsole, because ctrl-c doesn't work.
The strange thing is that printing and nfs still works just fine... So it would seem that perhaps ssh cannot start a bash process or something, perhaps this is related to the bash/readline problem that came up a while ago? I am sure this started because of a pacman -Syu, as it was working fine before. The problem is that I cannot get a shell to fix this... As mentioned the box is headless, and I can't even swap the monitor from my workstation because it has no video card. I really don't want to buy a vid card just to fix this... does anyone have an idea what I might do here? I suppose if worst comes to worst I could swap the vid card out of my workstation until this is resolved, but I am not even sure if this will be of any use because as it stands, there are no interactive logins on the box, and hence, no open shell, only login prompts on the virtual consoles, so even if I did get a monitor hooked up, I could probably not get a shell (just as with ssh). So what does one do in this situation... I am afraid I cannot provide much trouble shooting info, as I cannot run any commands on this box. Any comments, ideas?
