I had problems with the radeon drivers, they locked the system up some
times when I set ' Option "DynamicClocks" "on" ' under the device
section. So I tried the latest snapshot from
http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/ and they work perfectly with a
noticeable performance increase.

For Matrox Cards you will need the common-... and the mga-... files.
Just extract them and run the install.sh scripts (X-server must be
stoped). Remember that you have to reinstall the drivers if you switch
the kernel or xorg.

Hope this will solve your problem.
