I've seen some posts on the message boards from users with ipw2200 cards
and the new kernel having some troubles.

First off most of the version of ipw2200 in the kernel is 1.0.0 which is
rather old. Reading over at ipw's site is seems that they're not going
to support patching the kernel with development versions. So we'll be
stuck with this until they release 1.1.0 when ever that is. I probably
speak for most ipw2200 users here, at least ones who use wpa_supplicant
when I say that ipw2000 v1.0.0 kinda sucks. I'd like to see ipw2200 and
ieee80211 taken back out of the stock arch kernel and put back into
packages the way it was with 2.6.13, at least until newer version make
their way into the kernel. But I'm not sure if that falls in line with
the arch way or the direction the devs want to go. Not that it matters
much to me because I just roll my own the way I like and am off on my
merry way, but I'm sure there are others who would very much like for
this to be sorted out.

Also the ipw2200 package that is currently in extra, even though it is
still called ipw2200 1.0.8 now only contains version 2.4 of the
firmware, not the ipw2200 driver. Could the packge be renamed
appropriately? Referring to this post,
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=17130&highlight=ipw2200 the
version of the driver in the kernel requires version 2.2 of the
firmware, and isn't happy with 2.4.

I'd like to know what the dev's stance on this is and which direction
they plan to take. If they're going to stick with the version thats in
the kernel then I'll probably start ipw2200-devel and iee80211-devel
packages in the AUR for users like myself who'd rather use the newer
versions. Though it might be nice if a trusted user would take this up
so the packages would make it into community.

I've also edited the wpa_supplicant page on the wiki with instructions
on how to get the latest versions back for anyone who wants to. I
pasted the old pkgbuilds from extra there as well since they've been
removed from abs.
