Well, since you seem to know zsh very well, let me ask you this:
can zsh keep an history log across sessions, and if so, how?

I would keep bash in /bin, as most scripts will look for it. Although
many people like zsh, bash is still the de facto shell for most
distros, and alot of people prefer/are used to it.
