On fluxbox and xfce i have used kdesu successfully. I think even gksu would work. Someone in #kde once explained that sudo will reset the permissions of the above file to root since it is "ignorant" whereas {gk,kde}su knows about the X permissions.

What if I use neither (xfce, *box, enlightenment)?
And BTW, what's the risk in using it?
